Performance Max is a goal-based campaign that allows advertisers to show their ads across the entire Google Network, which includes Search, Display, Discovery, Gmail, and YouTube.
In comparison to other campaigns, Performance Max automates targeting and the delivery of the campaign based on the assets provided by the advertiser.

Google’s Performance Max will be replacing all Smart Shopping campaigns by the end of Q3 2022, and preexisting Smart Shopping campaigns will automatically be upgraded. Historical data will still be available from upgraded Smart Shopping campaigns.
Most of the existing options available with Smart Shopping campaigns will stay the same, as well as some upgrades, such as more automation insights and ad inventory across the Google Network.
