What is a Comparison Shopping Service (CSS)?

A CSS is the channel your products travel through to reach Google Shopping. You are already using one: Google’s. A free comparison shopping service is simply a different channel, and a cheaper one.

The channel, Google’s cut and the alternative

01 · The channel

Every Shopping ad uses a CSS

When you advertise on Google Shopping, your products are listed by a Comparison Shopping Service. Unless you have changed it, that service is Google’s own.

02 · Google’s cut

Google’s own CSS keeps 20% of it

Google deducts 20% from every Shopping bid placed through its own CSS, before that bid ever reaches the auction. It is never invoiced, so it is easy to miss.

03 · The alternative

A third-party CSS keeps none of it

Route the same products through Bidnamic’s CSS and your whole bid competes. Same budget, same products, and more visibility for every pound spent.

Same bid. Make more of it reach the auction.

The 20% is not a fee you get billed for. It comes off the top of every bid before it competes. That is why most advertisers never notice it.

A £1.00 bid on the same search

£0.80 reaches the auction through Google’s CSS
The full £1.00 competes through Bidnamic’s CSS

Same product, same budget, same campaign. The only difference is which Comparison Shopping Service lists it, and 20% more of your bid surviving to the auction makes you 20% more competitive on every click.

Isn’t Google’s own CSS the best option?

It is the default, which is not the same thing as the best. There are three ways to reach Google Shopping, and only one of them is free.

Bidnamic, Google and most third parties

Bidnamic’s CSS: no fee at all

We do not charge for CSS, whether or not you use anything else we do. Any retailer advertising in the UK or EEA can use it.

Google’s CSS: a 20% deduction

No invoice, no fee, no line item on a bill. Just 20% less bid than you thought you were placing, on every single click.

Most third parties: a monthly fee

They remove Google’s deduction, then charge a monthly fee for it. You have swapped a percentage for a fixed cost.

Switching to our CSS takes minutes, not weeks. Still free.

You keep your account, your product IDs and your performance history. The only visible change to shoppers is a “By Bidnamic” label on your listings.

STEP 1

A short call

We walk you through the switch inside your own Merchant Center. It takes minutes, and you make every click yourself.

STEP 2

Live within a working day

Most merchants see “CSS: Bidnamic” on their account within one working day of that call. There is nothing to install.

STEP 3

Nothing else changes

Product IDs, campaign structure and learned performance data all stay exactly where they are. Your ads keep serving.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Free CSS

How does the 20% saving actually work?
When you bid through Google’s own Comparison Shopping Service, Google deducts 20% from your bid before it enters the auction. Bid through ours and there is no deduction, so the full amount competes. Your budget does not change. What changes is how much of each bid actually reaches the auction, which is what determines whether you are seen.
Who can use Bidnamic’s free comparison shopping service?
Any retailer advertising in the UK or another EEA country, whether or not you use anything else we do. There is no minimum spend and no requirement to become a client. It is a genuinely free tool.
How do I switch my Merchant Center between Comparison Shopping Services?
On a short call we walk you through it inside your own Merchant Center account, and you make every click yourself. Most merchants see “CSS: Bidnamic” on the account within one working day. Some providers apply a grace period of up to 14 days before a switch completes.
Will switching affect my data or my ad delivery?
No. Your product IDs, performance data and campaign structure all stay exactly as they are. Ads keep serving throughout. The only visible difference is the “By Bidnamic” label that appears on your listings in place of Google’s.
Can I switch back to Google’s CSS, or to another provider?
Yes, at any time, with no penalty and no downtime. We do not lock the account and there is no contract to exit. If it does not work for you, switch back.
Does switching reset the learned performance data on my products?
No. Learned performance data is tied to your Merchant Center account and your product IDs, not to the Comparison Shopping Service listing them. Changing CSS does not reset it, so you do not go back into a learning phase.
What if I advertise in both EEA and non-EEA countries?
This is the one real limitation. CSS applies to the UK and EEA only, so ads targeting non-EEA countries stop until permission is granted for those territories. The usual answer is to keep a Google CSS Merchant Center for your non-EEA markets and run ours for the EEA. We will tell you on the call whether that applies to your account, before anything changes.

Start bidding with all of your budget.

Our CSS costs nothing, works with any UK or EEA Google Shopping account, and switches on in minutes.
